Why It Is Important To Change Fashion Industry Into Sustainable Industry

Recently the London fashion week had featured their eco cat-walk. From then a big environmental impact created all over the fashion industry. In United Kingdom, approximately 2.266 million tones of fabrics are destroyed every year. Far beyond the fashion shows, high street publications and commercial fairs, the diversity of the world, climate and people are considerably affected by the way they dress. Not even mining, oil extraction and logging have such a heavy impact on us and planet.

Whether it is Primark or Louis Vuitton whatever you decide to buy – they have the important, direct and traceable impact on the planet. Every piece of dress that you decide to purchase influences not alone how the dresses are fashioned (think of the cutting waste and off cuts), however also how the clothes are made, transported, and discarded at last and the kind of fiber (whether it is non-organic or organic).

Actually, style is considerable more than the ‘stylish’ VIP club which is only focused on cuts, colors, pretty and designs. The fashion industry network arches right from transportation, design, agriculture, manufacturing, to commercializing, promotion, recycling and waste management. We are only talking about clothes! That’s quite a surprise…

When it comes to fashion we can also discuss about

* Human-rights violations like slave labor and child-labor

* Cultural phenomena like consumerism, style bullying and eating troubles.

* Environmental pollution and damage like deforestation, unreasonable monocultures, spring water poisoning and draining

* Toxic industrial waste, non-biodegradable or non-recyclable goods

* Global warming and global climate change due to carbon footprints

Fashion industry is really an interesting industry. No single industry covers the balanced range of specialties, right from agriculture over design, shipping to waste management. Only fashion satisfies the basic need of both the natural instinct for beauty and grooming. For this reason the fashion industry needs to change. The seed that we really need to change the fashion is the organic cotton campaigns.

Therefore while buying next set of dress, just think of the Chinese teens who have stitched themselves to work on shift for fifteen or even twenty hrs and using some laundry pins to keep themselves away from falling asleep and their eyes from closing at work or the kids who have carried enough water for the dress across miles, and also have to run more (almost another trip) to get some drinking water for them.

Have some soft corner for these children’s, because you cut your wardrobes and do some jazzy colors. While you purchase your next spring apparels – appreciate the clothes and latest designs because lots of efforts have gone to make them.

However, while deciding what to purchase just rely on your conscience.

Global Fashion Industry: How Does Geography Play A Role?

It is a very interesting industry, if you think about it. Much of it still remains arcane for the common man, and trends that emerge and are eventually replaced never really feel like a big deal to most of us. However, if you look back, you might be able to appreciate the change that this has bought about to the human race. In fact, better understanding the global fashion industry might make you appreciate how important this particular industry is. There are a lot of factors that go into molding this industry, some of which are discussed below.

Local atmosphere

Depending on how the local atmosphere might be, this is too tends to take the same image. Hence, if there is some kind of a political imbroglio going in the country, it is bound to affect this just as much. Even culture plays a big role here, and the resulting fashion will be heavily influenced by the designer’s culture and heritage. As one might witness in fashion industries around the world, many of the creations are a direct result of the cultural influence of that particular region. This is a common phenomenon observed in the global industry.

Economic Conditions

It is the end of the day, is yet another industry. Hence, it follows that money makes a big presence in this industry and the lack of which, will clearly affect the industry. High profile designers are constantly looking out for emerging and profitable markets. If they don’t find it in the place they are in, they are guaranteed to look for it elsewhere. This is something important that often changes the seat of power in the global fashion industry. A city that might be considered as the hot seat today might immediately lose face tomorrow if the economy can’t keep up with the industry.

External Influences

In this industry, nothing is considered to be a “copy”. Designs and styles tend to be inspired, and not copied directly. Hence, with the global fashion industry, the fact that outside styles and designs are bound to influence less important fashion industry magazines cannot be neglected. This is an industry that thrives to remain familiar with differences. External influences are an everyday occurrence and cannot be neglected. People are bound to try and change the way things are, but eventually, the best style will be that of the more powerful industry.

Thus, one can actually assume the global fashion industry to be more of a united industry. Much of the factors that influence the global industry are normally those that emerge from familiar industries. These are the things that are worth noticing for and essentially dictate how the industry tends to be. Not only does this industry change regularly, it actually is a requirement that it change as often as possible. This is something that needs to be taken into consideration when analyzing from a global perspective. Overall, this is surely going to intrigue any individual that wants to learn more about it.

Ethical Issues in the Fashion Industry

The issue of ethics is a major concern in society and covers a wide range of spectrums. Ethical fashion brings to the root matters related to work conditions, fair trading, animal welfare, exploitation and the environment in the fashion industry. Businesses are increasingly recognizing the importance of corporate social responsibility and are making the necessary adjustments to satisfy consumers.Clothing are beautiful to wear but their manufacturing raises concern in many different aspects. Global warming, the dumping of nuclear wastes, the extinction of certain species and changes in the ecosystem are closely being monitored and most of the times are attributed to activities of mankind. The fashion industry has its part of blame and opinions vary as to the consequences relating to the effect that human activities has on the environment. Many companies try to cut down on costs to increase their profits. One method is to hire a cheap labor force. They accomplish that by opening industries in countries with low labor costs and sometimes uses child labor. In an ethical point of view, such practices are deemed unethical. The exploitation of children most of the times in conditions of forced labor in un-hygienic places is highly condemned. Paying hourly wages that does not reflect the hourly labor cost in which the products are sold is also considered as exploitation.A lot of outfits are made of cotton. Ethical concerns regard the hazards posed on the environment with the use of pesticides while cultivating cotton. Pesticides are harmful to people and the environment. Pesticides can have adverse symptoms on people such as headaches, depressions, seizures or loss of consciousness. It can lead to air, water and soil pollution. Finally, pesticides can cause not only the death of pests but also of other animals.Animal cruelty often comes to the forefront of activists’ agenda. In the fabrication of many types of clothing including shoes, belts and other accessories, the skin of different animals are used. For instance, the production of fur coats requires the killing of mink, foxes or other animals whose skin can be used. More often than not, these animals are killed using very cruel methods. There numbers are also reduced in the wild. Some animals are close to extinction because of excessive killing. Many textiles are treated with chemicals to soften and dyes them. Such chemicals are harmful to the environment and can also be the cause of skin diseases. Lead, chromium, nickel, aryl amines are but some of the chemicals used in the process of treating textiles.Ethical issues in the fashion industry are the cause of many debates. Many companies often respond to public concerns by showing their corporate social responsibility in diverse methods. Some are radical by being totally green. Others choose a certain issue which they emphasize to show their responsibility. For example, many companies explicitly make known that the process of producing their goods does not involve child labor or under-paid wages. Whatever the truth of the matter, ethical issues continue to preoccupy, governments, activists and society at large.

Web Design Trends For The Fashion Industry

DRAWING ATTENTION WITH IMAGESMost fashion websites rely on the power of visuals to draw attention, and let the product speak for itself. Using photographs is imperative, large images and videos are very popular. In most cases, the homepage consists of a large background photo and a navigation menu. The rest of the content is pushed to the background so it doesn’t compete with the product that’s displayed.Black and white is a common colour scheme on fashion websites, especially those that are supposed to convey an image of elegance and class, meanwhile young and playful brands use a lot of colour.
The main objective of a fashion website is to keep viewers on the site long enough for them to see the latest product collection. Some fashion websites have interactive elements and try to transform visits into a sensory experience for the viewer.BREATHTAKING COLOR SCHEMESAs we know, colors are crucial in fashion design. The same can be said about fashion industry website design.Whether it’s a whole range of colors or just a couple of shades of green and blue, the schemes seem to be prepared with great care, just to keep users watching… and that is the ultimate goal of these websites.FLUID LAYOUTThe whole experience of browsing through fashion websites can be brought down to these words: a constant flow. These websites are supposed to be a never-ending scroll, keeping the user engaged in a story or a journey through the world of the newest collections.Again, the ultimate goal of fashion websites is to keep you engaged and interested. So you scroll and you look and browse and choose, and even though you might not buy anything, the whole experience will surely make you remember the brand. It doesn’t have to be very intuitive – at times users might find themselves lost in a place where no logical navigation could have lead them – but that’s the way it’s supposed to be! The impression is everything, not the functionality of the website.VIDEOS AND PRODUCTSFashion brands often want to present products in a way no one else would – they need to stand out. Either it’s a peculiar fashion show, a stunning session with wild animals or, in this case, a video full of products that clients can admire during what they were made for – walking. The Geox Amphibiox website shows an efficient combination of video on website and a product catalogue, as well as an example of viral marketing.

Disabled Models – Direct Fashion Industry

It was announced earlier this week that the BBC has begun a nationwide search to find young women with disabilities who believe they have what it takes to work in the modelling industry. They are searching for ladies between the ages of 18 and 30 for a ground-breaking new TV series called ‘Britain’s Missing Top Model’.The BBC Three series will focus on eight women with disabilities competing over the course of three weeks to prove to a panel of experts from the modelling industry that they have the look, talent and persistence to be a fashion model. The eight women chosen will move into an apartment in London to complete a series of tasks set by industry experts – everything from posing and photoshoots to location work and catwalks. The prize that the ladies will be competing for is a photoshoot with a top fashion photographer that will be featured in a women’s glossy magazine. With the training, experience and publicity, the hope is that the winner will have a platform to launch their fashion career from. After scrutiny recently over its exclusions in race and size, it will be interesting to see how the fashion industry reacts to models with disabilities.Damian O’Connor, Managing Director of leading UK commercial modelling agency Models Direct, believes that the industry is becoming more inclusive, and that there are already opportunities for disabled people in modelling. “Here at Models Direct, we do not discriminate or exclude based on physical or psychological factors,” he says. “Over the past ten years, modelling has opened up in a lot of respects. There truly is a demand for models of all sorts, including those with disabilities, especially in advertising.”

Women’s Plus Size Swim Wear Is Making A Comeback In The Full Figure Fashion Industry

A voluptuous beautiful woman with full hips has been a forgotten consumer in the women’s plus size swim wear category. Fortunately, this full figured woman usually controls the purse strings for the family. After years of suffering in silence, the strong voices of these women are finally being heard in the full figure fashion industry.Someone forgot that full figured women are the mothers, sisters, and head of households that hold the purse strings. Someone forgot that these women go to dinners and go on vacation and may very well need to purchase a fashionable plus size swimsuit. They forgot to design a sexy, color enhancing swimsuit for this pillar of not only society but retail sales. What happened to the marketers who have their ears to the consumers wants and needs meter. The message was not delivered and somehow was not conveyed to the creator of the bikini or the chlorine resistant sackcloth called women’s plus size swim wear.A woman with a full figure is currently not the Hollywood representation of beauty. The choice of the fashion community is a slim waif like creature with sunken cheeks and no curves. So the fashion industry gave the full figured woman what they wanted and the full figured woman rejected their overture thumbs down. There has now been a revolution in the fashion industry which was too long in coming. But stylish figure enhancing swim wear has finally arrived. Women’s plus size swim wear is now available in beautiful colors and shape enhancing features that fit the body of a real woman. The women designers who are full figured women themselves finally put together a winning formula for swim wear for the regular sized womanIf one believes in conspiracy theories, then the conspiracy exists between the million dollar weight loss industry and the fashion gurus who might own stock in the companies. The conspiracy is the reason that the long awaited fashionable clothes and proper fitting swim wear for full figured women took so long to come to fruition. The problem may be that those slim witted designers may hold stock in the weight loss companies. Long before the slim waif was in vogue, Rueben defined beauty in his elegant pictures of woman who had hips, thighs and (whisper) breast. The women of the Reuben era had curves. The curves of a woman’s body are what define her femininity. The curves differentiate women from men. Women are build they way they are for a purpose. The creator designed women to look a certain way and it is not the thin reed like silhouette of the runway model. The women of the Rubenesque era were applauded and envied for their full body healthy curves. These women were pursued because they were the epitome of femininity and considered beautiful because of their rounded curves. These characteristics were considered attractive and desirable. Finally, someone in the retail clothing stores remembered that women in other sizes needed attractive swim wear. These women who have been ignored actually hold the purse strings.Swimsuits are now available in stylish and flattering designs. This improvement in the design is beneficial to all women who don’t have the perceived perfect body. When design is improved in clothes everyone shares in the compliments. There are real women sizes in swim wear that fit and look great. The swimsuit manufacturers are finally recognizing the needs and desires of women’s plus size swim wear [http://www.fabulousplussizeclothing.com/article-6-women] who fit the Reuben style of beauty rather than the style of beauty created by the fashion houses

The Changing Face of Indian Fashion Industry

India is a country with diversified customs and cultures. People following various traditions live here, their way of dressing also differ from each other. The traces of Indians being fashionable can be found out from the ancient remains of Harappa and Mohenjodaro civilizations. After the independence, globalization is being witnessed in the Indian fashion industry, due to which changes have occurred in the style of Indian dressing.Styles of wearing saris and salwar-kameez have changed. The look is more cosmopolitan than region-specific. Different styles of blouses like katori style, halter-neck, back button blouses, high neck blouses, puffed sleeve blouses, etc. have become the hot favorite among women. The average lengths of the blouses have decreased. Saris are draped mostly in traditional back pallo style or gujarati style. Indian fashion scene is greatly influenced by its films. For example Mumtaz style sari draping inspired by yester-year heroine Mumtaz. Here sari is tightly draped around the body.As far as salwar-kameez is concerned numerous styles and patterns can be given to this garment. For instance the kameez can be long, short, A-line, skin tight, etc. Such variations can be done to salwar as well as dupattas. Modern version of kameez is known as kurti, it could be coupled with jeans, pants or churidar. It has taken the form of Indo-western outfit. People in western countries too have started wearing kurtis.Emergence of mall cultureMall culture is slowly and steadily growing in India. Many brands and private labels are launched in the Indian market. The first such retail outlet was Shopper’s Stop which launched India’s first multi-brand store in the year 1993. The specialty of such malls is that they offer a wide range of varied branded stuff, all under single roof. Some of the famous malls of India are Pantaloons, Westside, Lifestyle, Globus, etc. These retail outlets have also launched clothing line under private labels, manufactured and sold by them. For example- Pantaloons has many private labels under its brand like All, Fashion station and Mela. Some of the major private labels even operate as exclusive stores. The buyer gets an international shopping experience in such retail outlets. There are no nagging sales persons pressurizing the customers to buy.Family stores are becoming hot favorite shopping hub for the middle-class and upper middle class shoppers. These stores sell garments of nearly all age groups and sexes. Apparels of various brands can be found in family stores. They are being considered as one-stop shopping destination. Designers – The Gods Of Fashion Industry

Fashion designers help create the billions of clothing articles, shoes, and accessories purchased every year by consumers. Fashion designers working for apparel wholesalers or manufacturers create designs for the mass market. Fashion designers are the people who create the elegant, whimsical, fun, silly, and often expensive clothes we see parading down runways twice a year. Fashion designers design and create clothing and accessories for men, women and children. Some high-fashion designers are self-employed and design for individual clients. Other high-fashion designers cater to specialty stores or high-fashion department stores.FashionFashion design is the applied art dedicated to the design of clothing and lifestyle accessories created within the cultural and social influences of a specific time. Fashion designers have brought about a storm in this glamour world with their commendably fabulous variety. Fashion industry has always welcomed new talent giving rise to the budding stars of tomorrow. While all articles of clothing from any time period are studied by academics as costume design, only clothing created after 1858 could be considered as fashion design. Before the former draper set up his maison couture (fashion house) in Paris, clothing design and creation was handled by largely anonymous seamstresses, and high fashion descended from that worn at royal courts. Throughout the early 20th century, practically all high fashion originated in Paris, and to a lesser extent London. At this time in fashion history the division between haute couture and ready-to-wear was not sharply defined.
DesignersDesigners know they have this power, and will continue to use it to influence global fashions throughout the eras. These designers create original garments, as well as those that follow established fashion trends. Most fashion designers, however, work for apparel manufacturers, creating designs of men’s, women’s, and children’s fashions for the mass market. Designer brands which have a ‘name’ as their brand such as Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren are likely to be designed by a team of individual designers under the direction of a designer director. Thus, the tradition of designers sketching out garment designs instead of presenting completed garments on models to customers began as an economy.Popular Western styles were adopted all over the world, and many designers from outside of the West had a profound impact on fashion. Currently, modern fashion has seen a reference to technology such as designers Hussein Chalayan and Miuccia Prada who have introduced industrial textiles and modern technology into their fall collections. Mass market designers generally adapt the trends set by the famous names in fashion. Increasingly, many modern high-end designers are now beginning to turn to mass market retailers to produce lower-priced merchandise, and to broaden their customer base. Perhaps most importantly, designers use their imaginations to come up with new ideas. There are a number of well known fashion design schools worldwide. Most fashion design courses last for three years. As well as teaching students about the artistic and technical side of the subject, some courses include a year working in the fashion industry, to give students a taste of commercial fashion design. Others offer the chance to visit fashion houses abroad.
